Photography

I have done many photographs using a gun, fox and fox teeth. These photographs really show the harsh, cruel reality of killing for fashion and decoration. Here I have taken a photo against a white background and then edited it so it looked sharp and professional.

Scanography

Here I have used scanography. This is one of my strongest medias as I find arranging the items in a way that makes them look very impressive and the editing process afterwards very effective, eye-catching and easy. I particularly like this piece. I have taken a relatively boring scanogram of a fox and a gun and then photoshopped some feathers and teeth on top of it. I also adjusted the opacity and contrast so that both images complemented each other without being too overpowering.

 

Observational Plans

When thinking about possible objects for observational work I wanted to focus more on the shocking side of my theme therefore I acquired a real fox which is supposed to be used as a fashion accessory. I also managed to get some feathers, a fur coat, fox teeth and fox jaws. I felt these items really showed the awful, brutal truth of the fur industry. I also used barbed wire and guns to show the reality of the hunting and awful conditions the animal are kept in and the awful pain and suffering the animals feel.

I love this campaign as it shows the harsh reality of what people will do for fashion, in this particular example I feel that it shows people that they are physically wearing animals skin. It’s vulgar and grotesque yet it’s very captivating and effective.

Runway Reversal

I found this video in particular very interesting yet very disturbing. I feel that this kind of campaign has a very hard effect on the viewer as we see it in a very harsh, real way as we feel the impact of the cruelty as humans are being killed instead of animals. I feel that I will use and research some more campaigns and use them as a kind of artist research to draw inspiration from.

Wim Delvoye Artist Research

Wim Delvoye is a Belgian neo-conceptual artist he lived in Beligum until his art was made illegal so he now lives and works in China. He owns a pig farm on which he tattoos pigs with religious images, various Disney characters and many other things. His work is said to always be shocking. People may buy his art alive, skinned or stuffed. His work caused an uproar amongst animal rights activists as it is deemed a  vile act of animal cruelty. I have chosen to use Delvoye as his work shows just how far people will go for fashion and money and the disgusting things people are willing to do.

Mind Map

Here I have created an animal mind map using photoshop and a site named ‘tegxedo’ I added the photograph of the cheetah onto photoshop and changed the contrast and added a stained brown paper background. I then added the words from texedo and changed the filter until you could see both the words and the cheetah.
